SHOP TUTORIAL.... (NP)

its time i gave one of these....
this is gonna be way long... so bear with me.

its not that i think i'm hot shit and make
a ton of NP through my shop (especially
since i just downsized it)... but i know
everyone wants to make extra NP and a shop
is a good place to do it.

you don't have to follow my advice. this
is always true. i'm just gonna offer up
what i do... and if you want to employ that
for yourself and your own shop... ok.

if you think i'm full of shit... thats ok
too. i make between 20k-50k NP a day on
these tips...
decide for yourself if its worth the risk.

i'm not going to guarantee that anyone can
make that kinda NP if they follow my advice...
i'm just telling you my results.

<ul type="square">[*]SHOP SIZE[/list]shop size IS important...
personally, i think that shops with a ton of shit in there is a waste. i dislike large, unbearable shops with millions of items. mainly because i hate searching for it. while i can use F4 to find the item... the fact that there is so much in a person?s shop makes
me want to look at all of it... and i don?t usually have time for that bs.

i think a good size shop can hold between 50-200 items max.
now let me recant. i don?t mean 200 DIFFERENT items... what i mean is that you should allow yourself some growing room. instead of buying 10 different items and selling them... buy 5 different items, 2 a piece. its a lot easier to manage... and you don?t have
to spend a great deal of time restocking your shop.

<ul type="square">[*]SHOP CONTENT[/list]i used to be the type that would put anything and everything into my shop. at times i still do... but that will be discussed later. while its totally ok to put different shit in your shop, its also easier to manage if you keep with the same stuff. when my shop opened, i dealed mainly in organic foods and doughnuts.... thats it... nothing else. i only had to visit two shops to restock... and i always knew the average selling price of my items so i didn?t have to check the wizard each time.

if you like plushies... do that. if you like food... do that. if you like battle items... do that.
whatever you do... don?t do all 3.

<ul type="square">[*]USE DISCRETION, PEOPLE!!![/list]here?s a personal example....

for 500np i could purchase 7-8 organic red apples at 70np each and sell them for 98np each... giving me a total of 686np / profit of 186np

OOOOOOOOOOOOOR........

i could purchase 5 milk chocolate flotsams at 90np each and resell them for 600np each.

i don?t think i need to explain further....

<ul type="square">[*]KNOW HOW TO PRICE[/list]this is so friggin important.
when i purchase items, i will immediately put them in my shop and cross-reference the price with the shop wizard. i will NEVER make my item the lowest unless....

1) someone has 3+ of the same item at a cheaper price
2) the item is so common you see it on the money tree all day long

usually i will price my item directly between the lowest and the second lowest item on the shop wizard. for example.....

if a person is selling one milk chocolate flotsam at 400... and the next highest is 650...and i have 3 of them... i?ll price them between 550 and 600 depending on my mood. however, if a person has 6 milk chocolate flotsams selling at 400... i?m going to sell mine at 395 (give or take).
i can stand to lose one customer for a cheaper price... but i?ll be damned if i?m going to lose 6.

i will also verify my prices TWICE a day on the shop wizard just so i keep my price consistent with the flux of new buyers/prices.

<ul type="square">[*]SHOP AROUND[/list]this is incredibly important. you simply HAVE to shop around if you want to make NP on your shop. when i say ?shop around? this is what i mean:

1) you have to know how rare/common your item is. you have to find out the true value of your item IF you plan to sell it.

some items are rare... but are basically just junk because there is no demand for it. i think this is best described with flowers...
flowers and plants are only used for neohomes.... so the demand for them isn?t as great.
if you have a flower or plant, thats not a bad thing.... i?m just saying that you shouldn?t expect them to sell through the roof.

2) another good idea is to check the money tree a few times a day.
i always do this... even though i don?t have much time to actually get items from the money tree anymore. it does tell me what items are useless....
tchea fruit, burnt red eye eggs, cracked mummified peppers... all that shit....
if its seen a bazillion times on the money tree... forget it. most of the time if i have something that is common (and usually priced below 50np... i?ll donate it to the money tree myself. i don?t need to keep a low-end item in my shop... taking up precious shop space.

3) visit site shops..... see what sells the fastest. not only that... stay in the shop and refresh on the next restock.... try to keep in mind what you see being offered on a consistent basis. you don?t wanna buy an item that anyone can get every 8 minutes, do ya??? go for the rarer stuff... the faster selling stuff. if something looks strange or different, buy it.... its probably rare. for example .... the chocolate factory sells mainly chocolates, candy and cookies... the shop is flooded with browns (color) and some reds/yellows for the gummy
items. but occasionally it will have something different... like uni pops (look for them) or mint chocolate items. let me stop here and let you know... mint chocolate sells. look it up... (i?m not talking about the common chocolate covered mint bar)... i?m talking about the green chocolates. if you see one, you?ll know. they sell in the shops between 500 ?1k.... and users sell it for thousands.

<ul type="square">[*]AUCTIONS[/list]auctions are weird.
but the reason i?m bringing it up now is because it belongs as #4 above... but more info must be added to auctions so it gets its own section.
as stated, auctions are weird. you may sell... you may not... who knows????

1) its a good thing to remember that auctions are always available... even during quests (potential selling point!!!) i remember when i first started playing neopets and i got in a quest and i couldn?t use the shop wizard (because i didn?t know shit)... i went right to auctions.

2) another selling point to auctions ? impulse buys....
the bulk of auction buyers sit on the first two pages of auctions... which is about a minute before each auction is over. most of them may not have time to cross-reference the price of an item with the shop wizard... and will buy on impulse. i know... i?ve done it.

3) price your item as you would if you were putting it in your shop. don?t under-sell it... you could risk losing some NP. if i am putting an item on auction... and it doesn?t sell... i continue to put it on auction until it sells. this may take a day or two... but it doesn?t fail me. you could even try pricing the item well over your expectations and see if that works.

4) stalk the auctions.... especially late at night (if you can). you can find some AMAZING deals. i recently purchased a star shaped ice skating rink for 5000 at auction... and sold it two days later for 27k. i?m not kidding.
i?ve also found some battle items and things of that nature really cheap that i have later sold for quite a profit.
if you are planning on stalking the auctions, stay on the second page... where an item has less than a minute to end. then when you see something that may be worth it... open to the shop wizard (which should be opened in a second window anyway) and quickly check the going rate. if its worth it... nab it. but remember... it is an auction... so there are probably a million other people doing the same thing...

<ul type="square">[*]THE TRADING POST[/list]i love the trading post. i really do...
you can find deals in bulk there. you can also unload some junk or unneeded items for a good trade. but be reasonable... most people that use the trading post KNOW how much their items are worth... so don?t bother trying to nab something reaaaaaaaally cheap...
the trading post is also a good way to sell er... trade rare items. be careful that you don?t get scammed. KNOW your price and stick to it... unless you really want what is being offered. also... take advantage of the wishlist feature. if you don?t put what you are expecting for your trade, you will be engorged with junk offers. people are SHOPPING... they want to know what something costs before they commit.

you can get exceptional deals at the trading post... get some good items and slap ?em up into your shop....

that's a pretty good tutorial.

as soon as i complete my task (almost there!) and get some NP built up, I plan to start trying to make some big money from my shop.

right now its in my shop with a 6500np price tag.
this may change a few times in a day... but just

Check out neopets.com.... Its all there....

It takes time to get everything down and understand the innere workings of it...but I just learn what I can one day at a time and in about a year I think I will know it all...LOL
